The world of standup comedy can be an isolating place for women and for this reason many women are deterred from standup early in their careers or before they have even begun. The Lincoln Lodge has created The Feminine Comique a beginners foundation course that strives to give prospective female performers the confidence and skills they need to begin a career in standup comedy.
The Feminine Comique gives students the opportunity to spend five weeks in a supportive all-female (and trans friendly) environment while learning the fundamentals necessary to write and perform standup comedy. The course is founded on the comedy principles of the critically acclaimed Lincoln Lodge, a national leader in cultivating and developing new comedy talent.
The curriculum is designed and taught by one of Chicago's top comics, Cameron Esposito who began her professional comedy career at the ImprovBoston Theater in Massachusetts and is currently a resident cast member at The Lincoln Lodge. Cameron trained with the Second City Conservatory and has taught improv in the Somerville and Arlington, MA school systems. Called "a favorite local comic" by Time Out Chicago, Cameron was nominated for Best Female Comic at the 2008 Chicago Comedy Awards and has been selected to appear at the 2009 RooftopComedy festival in Aspen.
The five weekly sessions of the course will focus on joke structure, finding an attitude and persona, connecting with the audience, topical humor, and creating a cohesive set. The course will culminate in a student showcase at the Lincoln Lodge, and provide students with an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.
