Congratulations to the 2006 Chicago Comedy Awards Winners!
|
On January 15th and 16th, 2007 the fans and comics of the Chicago comedy scene gathered for the Chicago Comedy Awards - a two-night tribute to the city's finest emerging stand-up comedians. Culled from a nominating panel consisting of passionate comedy lovers patronizing weekly comedy showcases throughout the city, the inaugural edition of the CCAs bestowed four awards: Best Comedian, Most Improved Comedian, Comedian's Choice and the Mark Sinclair Award for Most Innovative Comedian (named in honor of the late Time Out Chicago comedy editor).

Friday night featured the presentation of the gongs - affectionately dubbed "The Knock-Knocks" in an audience write-in competition - in a gala awards show presented in the Lincoln Lodge's own inimitable style with plenty of laughs that featured tongue-in-cheek homages to some of the award seasons other favorite annual shows!
A packed house enjoyed a great night hosted by Ken Barnard featuring performances from white-hot sketch groups Team Submarine and The Mike and Duane Show, while Second City's Hans Holsen handed out tips on how the audience could become award winners themselves! Johnathon Messinger, Books and Poetry Editor for Time Out Chicago, regaled the audience, which included a large contingent of Time Out colleagues, with fond rememberance of Mark Sinclair before presenting the award for Most Innovative Comic named in memorial of the popular comedy editor. The Chicago comedy community also honored it's legions of fans by bestowing an honorary "Best Heckler" award to a miscreant in the audience who bore an un-canny resemblance to local comedy favorite Brady Novak!
